Enrollment
The conditions for doctoral studies are defined in Article 11 of the law of 25 May 2016
In terms of the duration of the funding granted, the thesis takes place, in principle, over 3 years.
- Registration in 1st year of thesis
Enrollment in a thesis is subordinated to the quality of the candidate doctoral candidate's file. The complete application form (see Annex 3), together with the description of the thesis subject, must first be sent by the candidate or thesis supervisor to the secretariat of the ED for instruction. Doctoral candidates holding a Master's degree outside the Bologna process or a degree equivalent to a Master's degree must submit an application for a Master's Degree for validation prior to their enrollment to the ED Secretariat. Enrollment in the first year of the thesis is granted by the head of the institution on the proposal of the director of the ED following a registration interview with the director of the ED.
- Enrollment authorization in 2nd and 3rd year of thesis
Re-enrollment in the 2nd and 3rd year is granted by the head of the institution on the recommendation of the Director of the ED after a favorable opinion from the doctoral student's individual follow-up committee (see article 13). Ensure the smooth running of the thesis work. Special attention is paid to PhD students enrolled in Grade 3 to ensure that the thesis runs smoothly and to remind them of the prerequisites and the deadlines to be met for defense in order to limit the excessive and unjustified durations of the thesis.
Following the decision of the University's Board of Directors on 23/10/2012, doctoral students in the final year of the thesis are exempted from registration in the 4th year if their defense is scheduled before 20 December of the year in course.
- Requirements for enrollment in thesis and beyond
Registration in the fourth year of a thesis is a derogation. It is granted by the head of the institution on the recommendation of the Director of the ED following a favorable opinion from the doctoral student's individual follow-up committee (see article 13) and the ED board. The doctoral candidate must submit an application form containing the following elements: a letter from the thesis supervisor justifying the application for enrollment, an end-of-thesis plan and a financing of a minimum amount of 1000 euros net per month accompanying The doctoral student until his defense. The file must be submitted to the ED Secretariat before the end of September for validation by the ED Council during its autumn session. For PhD students who started their thesis in the first semester of the calendar year and whose funding runs beyond the calendar year of their 3rd year of enrollment, registration in the 4 th year of the thesis is validated condition. However, they must support their thesis before the end of their financing contract or, if they can not, justify their funding until the defense.
Enrollment in the 5th year (and beyond) is granted only exceptionally by the head of the school and is subject to special justification (eg full-time doctoral student, Sick leave, parental leave, etc.). In addition to these supporting documents, the application dossier must contain the following elements: an argued letter from the supervisor referred to by the director of the unit, a reasoned opinion from the director of the doctoral school validated by his council, An end-of-thesis plan and a financing accompanying the doctoral student until his or her defense.
- Non-renewal of registration
In the event that a non-renewal of enrollment is envisaged, the Director of the ED sends a registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt (RAR) to the doctoral candidate in which he gives his opinion unfavorable to the renewal and motivates this notice. The doctoral candidate may request a second opinion from the research committee of the institution concerned within one month.
